75 years of care and innovation
The history of ASKO began as an act of love. In the 1950s, a young farmer in Jung, south of Lidköping in Sweden, saw his mother’s predicament: washing by hand is wet, cold, hard and heavy. He wished to ease her burden, and so he invented his own machine. It had superior cleaning performance, with built-in water heating, spinning and a durable stainless steel structure. When others saw his machine, they wanted one too. Pretty soon, production began.
From one single washing machine, we’ve now progressed to the stage where we provide a full range of appliances for both kitchens and laundry. For 75 years, we have been crafting with care, combining timeless design with a vision for the future. From our kitchen heroes to laundry champions, ASKO appliances are crafted to meet the highest standards.
As our story continues to unfold, we remain dedicated to innovation, quality, and sustainability that inspires generations to come.

A legacy of design and engineering
ASKO’s roots go even further back to 1918, in Finland, where the company originally started as a furniture maker. Under the leadership of Aukusti Asko-Avonius, the company became renowned for its minimalist, functional, and elegant Scandinavian designs, which shaped not only Finnish furniture but also global interior design. Designers such as Ilmari Tapiovaara, Maija Heikinheimo, and Eero Aarnio were instrumental in creating pieces that balanced form and function, a philosophy that would later influence ASKO’s appliance designs.
A pivotal moment came in 1988, when the appliance division from Jung merged with ASKO’s Finnish furniture division. This merger brought together the best of both worlds — Swedish engineering excellence and Finnish design sophistication. As a result, ASKO began producing appliances that embodied not just technical reliability but also sleek, minimalist aesthetics, reflecting Scandinavian values of simplicity, functionality, and craftsmanship.
Since then, ASKO has continued to innovate, building on its dual heritage. The company’s appliances, from washers to ovens, are designed to blend seamlessly into any home, combining practical engineering with award-winning design.
